My Family Story Vault LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website https://myfamilystoryvault.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Information: We collect the following personal information:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Profile image (optional)
  • Payment information

1.2 Free Tool Information: Our free tools, which include the Story Interview question generator, the Family Tree and the Timeline Map starter tools, let visitors try the Service before creating an account. Using these tools, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Information you enter about yourself or your loved one (such as name, relationship, birth year, birthplace and living status)
  • The family tree, timeline map or interview question content you create
  • IP address

We use this information to deliver the content you requested (for example, emailing you your generated interview questions or a link to resume your in-progress tree or timeline), and, if you later create an account, to let you pick up where you left off. Information submitted to these tools and the Story Interview question generator, including your email address, is retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted unless you create an account.

1.3 In-Person Video Capture: At events, our team may record a short video story with your verbal consent, using a phone and our internal capture tool. This creates a private, unlisted preview page which is accessible only to someone with the direct link or QR code we provide (it's not searchable or publicly listed) where the video, its transcript, and the name, relationship and note our team entered about the story's subject can be viewed. This video preview page and the underlying recording and transcript are automatically deleted 30 days after capture unless claimed by creating an account.

1.4 Non-Personal Information: We use Umami analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service that collects aggregated, non-personal data about website usage without tracking individual users or storing personal information.

2. Purpose of Data Collection

We collect and use your personal information for:

  • Order processing
  • Plan subscription management
  • Service delivery and customer support
  • Delivering the free tools described in Sections 1.2 and 1.3, and following up with visitors who use them (for example, an email with your generated questions or a link back to your in-progress tree, timeline or video)

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with any third parties. We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate the Service — including Mailgun for transactional and follow-up emails, Stripe for payment processing, MongoDB for data storage and Google Cloud for media processing and storage, solely for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy.

4. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide you with our Service and for legitimate business purposes, including compliance with legal obligations. Data submitted through the Story Interview question generator, the Family Tree Builder and the Timeline Map free tools, and the in-person video capture tool is automatically deleted 30 days after submission or capture if it is not claimed by creating an account.

6. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information.

Our Umami analytics service uses minimal, privacy-respecting tracking that does not identify individual users and does not use cookies that track personal information across websites.
